Andreas Weimann stressed the importance of getting back to winning ways as soon as possible as he looked ahead to Derby County’s Sky Bet Championship clash with Reading on Saturday.

The Rams are three games without a win after the pulsating 2-2 draw against Leeds United at Pride Park Stadium on Wednesday night, with Kasey Palmer grabbing a last-gasp equaliser.

Weimann struck in first-half stoppage time for his fourth goal of the season, but the winger admitted that draws simply aren’t enough at this stage of the season, especially when there are opportunities to take advantage of slip-ups from others in and around the top-six.

He told RamsTV: “There are 13 games to go and it’s still all to play for, so we just have to make sure that we get back on track and put another run together.

“Every team will always have a little bit of a blip, it’s just about making it as short as possible, we need to make sure that we can get back to winning games again.

“We’re a few points behind Cardiff now but I’m sure they will lose some games before the end of the season so it’s up to us to keep getting those points on the board.

“We’ve drawn too many games, so it’s just about getting the three points now.”

Looking back on the draw against Leeds, Weimann echoed the thoughts of Gary Rowett after seeing two goals conceded in an uncharacteristic manner, but he felt that the first half performance in particular offered encouragement.

He said: “Especially in the first half, we played really well, it was one of the best halves that we’ve had all season to be honest but it just wouldn’t go in.

“They had one shot and scored so it’s frustrating but we showed character and hopefully it will prove to be another good point for us.

“It was disappointing to concede the [second] goal because it came from our free-kick. Scotty saved it and it fell straight onto Alioski’s head, so there are little things that aren’t going for us at the moment.”

Now the focus turns to the trip to the Madejski Stadium, and Weimann is expecting a similar test to when the Royals visited Pride Park Stadium in November when Jaap Stam’s side stunned Derby to win 4-2.

He added: “When we played them at home we found it difficult, they’re not at their best this season but any away game is tough in this league.

“We have confidence that we can get that win that we need.”
