Derby County Under-23s will look to cement their place in the Premier League 2 Division 1 for a third consecutive season when they face Leicester City to end their current campaign.

The fate of the Rams’ 2018/19 season boils down to their final game at King Power Stadium where a draw should be enough to retain their status in the top-tier and dcfc.co.uk has pulled together all the information you are going to need to know ahead of kick-off…

WHAT’S THE LASTEST TEAM NEWS

With the first team playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday games this week, Darren Wassall is unlikely to be able to call upon any first team players for the short trip to Leicester.

Richard Keogh, George Thorne and Jamie Hanson all featured in the win over the Hammers.

He is likely to return to a similar squad that faced Tottenham Hotspur a week before with Kyle McAllister still out the fold due to a groin injury.

SETTING THE SCENE

As the curtain closes on another impressive season for Wassall’s side, the Rams have one final chance to extend their stay in the Premier League 2 Division 1 for another campaign.

After a 1-0 victory over West Ham United last Monday, that saw Derby lift themselves out of the drop zone and condemn Manchester United to relegation, their fate for next season rests in their own hands.

With one game left, the Rams sit two points ahead of Sunderland, but due to a considerable advantage on goal difference, a draw against Leicester looks enough to retain their status.

“We will look after what we can do. The players are in great spirits after the West Ham game it was a great victory and sets us up nicely for Monday night,” Wassall told RamsTV.

“We are under no illusions, it’s a really tough ask. Leicester are an excellent side but we go into every game believing that we can win it and believing we are going to be competitive.”

LAST TIME OUT AGAINST THE FOXES

DERBY COUNTY U23s 0-2 LEICESTER CITY U23s
Friday 24th November, 2017

Mason Bennett and Darren Bent returned to action at Pride Park Stadium after long-term injuries as Derby fell to an impressive Leicester squad.

The Rams were caught on the backfoot as the Foxes imposed their high-tempo style from the first minute. But the home team soon got into their stride after some nervy moments and Ikechi Anya threatened to break the deadlock after 18 minutes, however his effort was comfortably saved.

Five minutes later and Leicester struck in their first when a corner lead to a goalmouth scramble that saw the ball fall to Josh Knight to finish from six yards.

Their lead doubled just four minutes after the restart when Ahmed Musa’s cross was met by Lamine Sherif who struck powerfully from just outside the box to beat Josh Barnes.

Goalscorer Sherif was sent off in the final minutes after receiving his second yellow card, but the Rams just couldn’t break through the Foxes’ solid defence as time ran out.
