Derby County Under-18s’ final league game of the season ended with a 1-0 defeat against Manchester City, despite a valiant performance at the City Football Academy.

Defender Jordan Brown came close to giving the Rams the lead early on after being left unmarked at the back post from a set-piece, but his strike found the side netting.

The hosts took the lead towards the end of the first half through Henri Ogunby who turned in D’Margio Wright-Phillips’ cross from close range.

Derby almost levelled the game two minutes later, but Jayden Mitchell-Lawson’s free-kick bounced off the frame of the goal.

Shortly after the restart, Derby hit the post again, this time through substitute Connor Dixon.

The visitors controlled the second half and Brown once again caused problems from an attacking set-play; the full-back however saw his driven header bounce over the goal.

Morgan Whittaker also came close from a free-kick as his left-footed strike forced a strong save out of City goalkeeper Curtis Anderson.

What It Means…

The result means that Derby have ended their Premier League – North campaign in sixth position.

Highlights over the campaign have included home wins over Manchester City, Manchester United and Everton and an 11-game unbeaten run that lasted almost four months.
