"I'm Going To Remember This For A Long Time"

Midfielder Mason Mount admitted getting the call regarding his England senior call up will stay with him for a long time.

The youngster was rewarded for his fine form in a Derby County shirt this season with a call up to Gareth Southgate’s senior squad to face Croatia and Spain next week.

Mount, who has five goals in 14 appearances for the Rams so far this season, was overjoyed to hear the news.

“I’m going to remember this for a long time,” he told RamsTV. “Obviously getting chosen to go and train with the England first team before the World Cup was an unbelievable achievement for myself and then it was a proud moment to be called up for the Under-21s for the first time last month.

“In the game I got a goal and an assist and now being called up to the senior team is something I’m going to remember for a long time and I’m pleased with it.

“It will be two tough games. It’s great experience for me but I’ve got to say thank you to the gaffer, Jody Morris and all the staff here at Derby County, and the players as well. Without them and the way we play and the way we have been playing, I wouldn’t be in the position I am now so a lot of thanks has to go to Derby County.”

The youngster was summoned into the office to see manager Frank Lampard earlier today and was surprised by what he initially was told.

“He spoke about maybe I needed a rest against QPR and then he told me about how Gareth had called him up and told me I was going away with the England first team,” he said. “He definitely played me!”

Not only is the call up a proud moment for Mount, but it also is for his family. “My mum and dad are in Australia at the moment because my sister lives over there,” Mount commented. “She has been there for a few years now and she’s just had a baby so they are there and I told them and they are excited. I’m not sure if they are going to come back and watch or watch the game out there. They will definitely watch the games.”
