Manager Frank Lampard believed his side deserved all three points from this afternoon’s game against Middlesbrough.

The Rams had to settle for a point as Jayden Bogle’s late own goal ensured the points were shared in a 1-1 draw at the Riverside.

An own goal from George Friend, under pressure from Martyn Waghorn, had put Derby ahead inside the opening 20 minutes of the game as Lampard’s side thoroughly dominated and frustrated their opponents.

The point topped off a good week for the Rams as they took seven points from a possible nine against three promotion-candidates in the league, after defeating Sheffield United 2-1 last Saturday and West Bromwich Albion 4-1 in midweek.

“I would have taken seven points [at the start of the week], but we deserved nine because in that first half we deserved to be two or three goals clear,” Lampard told RamsTV. “That would have won us the game but we didn’t take our chances.

“When it’s 1-0 it’s always a dangerous scoreline for us and I feel sorry for the players because they deserved nine points because they were brilliant again.

“Our passing was good in the first half an hour and the creation of chances was brilliant. We hit the post, the goalkeeper saves with his legs and there are things happening all over the place and I would have hoped that brought us the second goal but it didn’t.

“When it doesn’t happen you have to dig in and the players did dig in. Fikayo Tomori was brilliant. I feel sorry for Jayden Bogle because he’s defended well today and in the last couple of games.

“We have played some great football. To beat Sheffield United, we dug in, played well, West Brom speaks for itself, and if you watched the first half today you would have been impressed. We got seven points but deserved nine.”

The football in the opening 30 minutes drew a lot of praise and Lampard was impressed with how his side started the game.

“We had comfort on the ball and that’s what we are working towards,” he said. “I think we can get better but it was a great thing for me to see where we’ve got to.

“When you reflect and the disappointment of not winning goes away, we’ll look at that first half an hour and see that as a benchmark because that’s our standard.”

Mason Mount limped off with a knock in the second half but Lampard provided a positive update after the game.

“I think he will be alright,” admitted the manager. “He got a kick as opposed to a muscle injury so he should be fine.”
