Defender Richard Keogh enjoyed a winning start to life under new manager Mick McCarthy for the Republic of Ireland on Saturday.

The 32-year-old played the full 90 minutes in their 1-0 win away to Gibraltar in their opening Euro 2020 qualifier.

Keogh helped his side record a valuable clean sheet and it kicked off their qualifying campaign with a winning start.

Former Rams Academy graduate Jeff Hendrick scored the only goal of the game early into the second half to record the three points.

The defender will next be in action on Tuesday night as Ireland face Georgia on home turf at the Aviva Stadium in another Euro 2020 qualifier.

It was a great afternoon for young Academy star Jason Knight as he scored in the Republic of Ireland Under-19s’ victory over Azerbaijan on Saturday.

The midfielder doubled their lead on the hour mark as they went on to win 3-1 to record their second victory in as many games.

Fellow Academy player Festy Ebosele was introduced in the final minutes of the game as the result confirmed their place at the 2020 UEFA European Under-19 Championship.

In the Republic of Ireland Under-18s, Jaden Charles played an hour in their 0-0 draw against Turkey, whilst in the Under-17s, goalkeeper Harry Halwax played the full game but saw his side lose against Finland.

Elsewhere, Kyle McAllister made his debut for Scotland’s Under-21s on Friday as he played 50 minutes in their goalless draw against Mexico in Marbella.

The winger had a relatively quiet afternoon with defences on top but will be back in action on Monday as they face Sweden in a friendly fixture.

Meanwhile, Timi Max Elsnik and Sven Karic made their Slovenia Under-21 debuts this weekend but were unable to prevent their side from falling to defeat as they were beaten 3-0 by Georgia.
