Midfielder Tom Huddlestone praised manager Frank Lampard’s tactics following the 4-3 aggregate win over Leeds United in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Semi-Final Second Leg.

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg at Pride Park Stadium, the manager adopted a diamond formation in midfield which proved effective at Elland Road.

Goals from Mason Mount and Harry Wilson and a brace from substitute Jack Marriott secured the 4-2 victory on the night and Huddlestone was full of praise for the tactics deployed by the manager.

We tweaked the system and it came off,” he told RamsTV. “The goal before half time was crucial.

“If we had gone into the break two goals behind on aggregate, then their tails would have been up and we would have been deflated.

“I thought we got on top in the final 15 minutes of the first half and caused a lot of confusion in their defence and goalkeeper.

“We went two too. We have played against teams like that and they’re a handful. If you stick Jack Marriott in front of goal and have Richard Keogh going on mazy runs like that then we’re always going to score goals!

“Thankfully he has that in his locker and the finish at the end of it was brilliant. We came out deserved winners in the end.

“It’s been a long time coming. It’s been four tough games against Leeds but tonight we pulled it out the bag. You can see what it means to the fans and the players.”
