Derby County club staff helped raise vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK over the weekend as part of the charity’s ‘Football to Amsterdam’ cycle ride.

Staff members and football fans from clubs across the country united to cycle 140 miles over two days, finishing at Ajax's Johan Cruyff Arena.

Many people are unaware that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. One man will die from prostate cancer every 45 minutes in the UK - that’s over 11,800 men a year.

Based on current trends, if we ignore prostate cancer and do nothing, this number will rise to over 14,500 men a year by 2026.

The Rams linked up with Prostate Cancer, naming them as a proud charity partner for the 2018/19 season, following a successful period as the EFL’s charity partner for several years.

The Rams’ representatives, known as Team Ramsterdam, were: Stephen Pearce, Marc Edworthy, Ashley Peden, Jack Webster, Sarah Poplar, Grace Vivian, Else Vivian, Todd Holt, Jurij Fletcher, Robert Gates, Marc Maskery, Luke Wilkinson, Gavin Lewis, Lee Averne, Charlene Sharp, Paul Thompson, Emma Pilgrim, Jodie Hayes.

Derby’s staff, who in total raised over £20,000, were sponsored by wetsuit and apparel specialists HUUB and two members of their team, Dean Jackson and David Lamb, also joined the Rams’ team on the ride.

There were two routes for riders to choose from to kick off Day One last Friday, either from the Lee Valley VeloPark or Barnsley’s Oakwell Stadium. Both routes took in an overnight ferry from Harwich and Hull respectively before following a route in Holland on Day Two.

Day Two, on Saturday, was a flat and scenic ride along the Dutch canal paths before finishing at Amsterdam's Ajax's Johan Cruyff Arena.

Those taking part had to contend with difficult weather conditions throughout the ride, which were the worst on record for the event with constant rain and wind throughout the two days.
