Manager Phillip Cocu was pleased to see so many Derby County supporters turn out for the club’s open training session at Pride Park Stadium on Tuesday morning.

Over 1,000 supporters attended the session and they were treated to seeing Derby's squad take part in a mixture of fitness work, passing drills and shooting practise.

It was a fun session as preparations continued for the first game of the 2019/20 Sky Bet Championship season against Huddersfield Town next Monday.

After the manager and his staff put the players through their paces, they made their way over to supporters to hand out signed merchandise, sign autographs and pose for pictures.

It was an event to remember and memories made for young supporters and Cocu enjoyed the morning’s session.

“It’s exciting to be here and it’s a great feeling to have a session in the stadium with so many fans here to see it,” he told RamsTV.

“The guys gave some footballs away for the children and I’m excited to be here. I’m looking forward to the first league game next Monday and we are ready for that.”

There are only six days until the trip to the John Smith’s Stadium as the Rams hope to kick start their season in a positive manner.

Cocu’s side have enjoyed a productive pre-season campaign but know the hard work really starts against the Terriers next week.

“We had a good trip to Florida and we played two games and did some hard work,” he said. “We continued that when we got back.

“We played a few more games and they were good tests against good opponents. In the end, after five or six games, you are ready to start the season and for the boys, it’s time to start the league games. We are excited to start and it will be good to get off to a good start with our fans.

“Hopefully a lot of our fans will be present to support us and I’m looking forward to the first game in the league because that’s what all the work has been towards. We will do the best to get another great season in.”
