Derby County have completed the signing of goalkeeper Ben Hamer on a season-long loan deal.

The 31-year-old shot-stopper has linked up with the Rams from fellow Sky Bet Championship side Huddersfield Town.

Hamer has joined Derby for the 2019/20 campaign following confirmation earlier in the day that Scott Carson has joined Premier League champions Manchester City on loan for the season.

The custodian, who has over 300 career appearances to his name, arrives at Pride Park Stadium to strengthen the options available to manager Phillip Cocu between the posts.

Commenting on the arrival, Cocu said: “It is important to have strength in depth across all positions and Ben Hamer provides more competition in our goalkeeping department.

“I am sure Ben will fit into the group we have and be another important member of the squad.”

Somerset-born Hamer began his professional career at Reading and progressed through their youth ranks.

He enjoyed loan spells at Crawley Town, Exeter City and Brentford, on three occasions, in order to gain first-team experience as a youngster.

During his time at Brentford, he was a key member of their 2008/09 promotion-winning side from League 2 and was the division’s Golden Glove winner.

After making five first-team appearances for Reading, he sealed his first permanent move away from the Royals in August 2011 as he joined Charlton Athletic.

Under the management of former Rams defender Chris Powell, Hamer excelled as the Addicks gained promotion from League 1 as Champions and he was named in the League 1 Team of the Season.

After 121 appearances across three seasons at The Valley, two of which were back in the Championship, Hamer joined Leicester City following their promotion to the Premier League in 2014.

He acted as cover for Kasper Schmeichel across four seasons, including their stunning title-winning campaign in 2015/16, and made 20 appearances in all competitions.

During his time with the Foxes he featured 12 times in the Premier League, as well as featuring in the Champions League, while he also had brief loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Bristol City.

Hamer joined Huddersfield Town last summer on a free transfer, ahead of their second season in the Premier League, and he made eight appearances in all competitions for the Terriers.

In total, Hamer has made 309 professional appearances in club football.
