Derby County's Krystian Bielik made his international bow for national side Poland last night, whilst Tom Lawrence helped Wales to victory over Azerbaijan.

Bielik, who was called up to Poland’s national squad for the first time last month, came off the bench in the 70th minute but it turned out to be a disappointing evening as they suffered a 2-0 defeat against Slovenia in Ljubljana.

The damage was already done as the hosts were two goals ahead before Bielik’s introduction with 20 minutes to go as he replaced Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich.

Poland couldn’t manage to find a way back into the game, suffering their first defeat in the qualification stage for Euro 2020. They still top Group G and face second-placed Austria on Monday.

Elsewhere, it was a nervy evening for Wales as they scraped through against Azerbaijan. Lawrence played the full 90 minutes as the Red Dragons left it late to beat their opponents 2-1 in Cardiff.

Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale scored late on to ensure Wales stay in the race to qualify for Euro 2020.

Meanwhile, Jason Knight came off the bench for the Republic of Ireland Under-21s as they beat Armenia yesterday.

The youngster was introduced in the 89th minute as they won 1-0 to maintain their 100% record in Group A of their U21 European Championships qualification.
