Derby County recorded their first back-to-back home victories of the season after a 2-0 win over Luton Town at Pride Park Stadium.

The Rams were forced to wait for their first win at Pride Park in the 2019/20 campaign, which came last weekend against Birmingham City.

However, Phillip Cocu’s side backed that up against the Hatters to head into the second international break having been undefeated in the block of four games.

The Rams took an early lead through a mistake at the back by Luton when Matty Pearson sent a back-pass into his own net.

With 20 minutes to go, Tom Lawrence flung a powerful cross from the right sideline straight past the hands of Simon Sluga and into the far corner.

Graeme Shinnie made his first Sky Bet Championship appearance, putting in a solid shift in the midfield, replacing Tom Huddlestone who sustained an injury after scoring in the midweek clash with Barnesley.

Florian Jozefzoon and Matt Clarke also returned to the starting line-up in Cocu’s side.

Derby showed their dominance from the opening whistle and spent the majority of the opening ten minutes piling on the pressure in Luton’s half. However, the Rams opening goal was gifted to them by the Hatters in the 11th minute.

Pearson sent a strong pass back towards his keeper, but Sluga miss kicked and the pass rolled past him and into the back of the net.

It looked as though Derby were going to capitalise on the visitor’s frustration straight away with the advantage only proving to be more of a catalyst in the Rams’ attack. Jamie Paterson broke broke away down the right before whipping a cross over to Chris Martin at the back post, who was looking for his fourth goal in five games, however, he shot just wide.

The Hatters’ best only chance of the half also resulted in a missed chance on the end of a cross. This time, James Collins shot well over from 2 yards out from right-wing cross.

With just more than ten minutes to play in the half, the Rams looked to double their lead when Paterson fed out wide to Martin who beat his man to cross to Jozefzoon, but the winger couldn’t quite reach it.

Lawrence cut inside just after the hour mark and saw his shot from the edge of the box, deflected just wide. However, five minutes later, there was no denying him with an outrageous goal on 70 minutes.

Bogle laid the ball off to the Welsh winger down the right sideline. His rocket of a cross flew straight past Sluga and into the far corner.

Kelle Roos made a comfortable stop in added time to deny a low shot by James Collins to ensure the clean sheet to accompany the victory.
