Whilst circumstances currently mean there’s no live football to enjoy, dcfc.co.uk is delving into the archives to feature a photograph from Derby County’s illustrious history.

For the foreseeable future, we’ll provide you an image each day for supporters to enjoy and reminisce.

Welsh International Midfielder Pembridge In Action For Derby

Pictured here is former Derby County and Wales international Mark Pembridge in midfield action during the First Division Play-Off Semi-Final First Leg against Millwall at the Baseball Ground in May 1994.

Derby were 2-0 winners on the day, thanks to goals from Gordon Cowans and Tommy Johnson, before recording a 3-1 victory at The Den a few days later.

Pembridge moved to the Baseball Ground in the summer of 1992 under the management of Arthur Cox from Luton Town, at the age of 21, for a fee of £1.25 million.

The midfielder, who won 54 caps for Wales during his career, racked up 140 appearances over his time with Derby and departed for Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 1995.

Pembridge also netted 37 goals for the Rams and scored 11 times during the 1993/94 season, which saw Derby take on Leicester City in Play-Off Final but unfortunately fall to a 2-1 defeat.

He later went on to play for Benfica, Everton and Fulham before retiring in 2007 and is now the Under-23s Head Coach at Fulham.
