Whilst circumstances currently mean there’s no live football to enjoy, dcfc.co.uk is delving into the archives to feature a photograph from Derby County’s illustrious history.

For the foreseeable future, we’ll provide you an image each day for supporters to enjoy and reminisce.

Kevin Hector Goes Close For Derby Against Chelsea At Stamford Bridge

Kevin Hector is pictured here in action for Derby County against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on October 1969 as he goes close to scoring with a header.

The game ended in a 2-2 draw with John O’Hare and Hector on target for Brian Clough’s side in West London.

Hector made a club-record 589 appearances for Derby during two spells with the club, 486 of which came in league games.

He joined Derby from Bradford Park Avenue in 1966 and not only survived the advent of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor, he became an integral part of their plans. He eventually left the club in 1978 but returned for a brief spell in the 1980s.

Known as ‘The King’ to supporters, he was an instant success following his arrival and he proudly sits second in the club’s all-time goalscorers list with 201. Only Steve Bloomer has scored more goals for Derby County than Hector.
