Derby County are delighted to have raised over £4,500 for the NHS - with the help of Rams fans.
For the final nine matches of the 2019/20 season, the Rams proudly paid tribute to local key workers, displaying the NHS Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity on the back of their shirts.
In addition, a special ‘Thank You NHS’ logo was donned on the front.
Following the conclusion of the season that will forever be remembered as the campaign that concluded in empty stadiums due the COVID-19 pandemic, the match worn shirts – home, away and third - were signed by Derby’s players, accompanied by a certificate of authentication and auctioned off.
In a chance to thank the local NHS heroes working on the frontline throughout the COVID-19 outbreak and own a unique collectable, Derby raised a total of £4,540.08 from the auction.
That sum will go to NHS Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity which provides support for all the sites under the University of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, including Derby, Burton, Lichfield and Tamworth to provide the highest quality care to patients across southern Derbyshire and east Staffordshire.
Tim Diggle, Director of Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity, said: “It was amazing to hear that Derby County wanted to feature us on their shirts and we were immensely proud to see our logo on the back of such a beloved part of the Derby community.
“It was inspiring to see, and we are so grateful to the club for wanting to say thank you to our fantastic NHS team. Such a fantastic donation will make a real difference to our staff during these difficult times.
“All of us have been touched by this pandemic in one way or another and to see the club and the local people work together to support its local NHS lifts the heart.”
The charity’s key aim is to help make patients’ lives better and the amazing donations and support from the local community enables the charity to help provide the extras that cannot be provided from NHS statutory funding but make a huge difference to patients and staff.
