Six Derby County players have been called up for their respective nations and will head off on international duty this week.

David Marshall - Scotland

The Rams’ goalkeeper made himself a Scottish national hero last year, saving Aleksandar Mitrovic’s penalty in their penalty shoot-out victory over Serbia in the UEFA Nations League Final to secure their qualification for the upcoming European Championships.

It’s the first time Scotland have qualified for a major tournament since the World Cup in 1998.

Marshall, who was voted Scotland’s Player of the Year, will now be hoping to secure another place in a major tournament as the Tartan Army start their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification quest.

Poland start their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification matches under new management following the appointment of former Swansea City and Leicester City manager Paulo Sousa in January. He has named his first official squad for the opening three fixtures of the campaign as they face Hungary, Andorra and England, and Jozwiak is part of that contingent.

The winger, who joined Derby from Lech Poznan in September 2020, has nine Polish caps to his name. His only international goal to date came against the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League in November 2020.

Jason Knight - Republic of Ireland

Jason Knight’s call up to the Republic of Ireland national team squad is fine reward for the youngster who has been an impressive figure for the Rams this season. The midfielder has played the most minutes out of anyone else in the Derby squad this season and has earned a call up to Stephen Kenny’s squad for Ireland’s squad for this month’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Knight has three Irish caps to his name already, making his debut for his country earlier this season in a 1-0 defeat against Finland in October 2020. He made his first start for the country a month later in a goalless draw against Bulgaria at the AVIVA Stadium.

Midfielder Louie Watson has been called up to the Republic of Ireland Under-21s for the first time in his career. The 19-year-old has impressed Rams boss Wayne Rooney since his arrival in October 2020 and earned his place amongst the first team squad in recent months.

He made his league debut in the 4-0 victory over Birmingham City in December, whilst his first start for the club came against Brentford at Pride Park Stadium. The midfielder, who has represented Ireland at Under-18s level, will link up with Jim Crawford‘s Under-21s side for their upcoming international fixture.

This will be Mengi’s first taste of Under-19s action after appearing for the Under-15s, Under-17s and Under-18s in recent years.
