Derby County pair Louie Watson and Festy Ebosele have been called up to the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad for their forthcoming international triple-header in Spain.

Watson and Ebosele will link up with the Ireland camp later this week for a training camp in Marbella, where they will also play three international friendly matches.

Jim Crawford’s side will face Switzerland on Sunday 30th May, Australia on Wednesday 2nd June and Denmark on Saturday 5th June.

Attacking midfielder Watson made nine first-team appearances for Derby in the 2020/21 season under Wayne Rooney after initially impressing in the Under-23s following his arrival from West Ham United last summer.

He was rewarded for his progress with a start in the 2-2 draw at home to Brentford in March, after making his debut off the bench in the Rams’ 4-0 win at Birmingham City in December, and gained his first Ireland Under-21 cap a few weeks later, having previously gained two Under-19 caps in 2019.

Right-back Ebosele made three first-team appearances off the bench during the season, as well as a further outing as a substitute in the Emirates FA Cup Third Round tie at Chorley in January when the Rams’ squad was made up of Academy players due to COVID-19 protocols.

Ebosele has represented his country at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-19 level and is pushing to gain his first cap at Under-21 level.
