TEAM NEWS…

Goalkeeper Kelle Roos will serve a one-match ban after he was sent off for a professional foul in Derby's 1-0 loss at Sheffield United on Saturday.

That means Ryan Allsop, who came off the bench at Bramall Lane, will make his first league start for the Rams against the Royals and the experienced David Marshall will come into the squad on the bench.

Attacking full-back Festy Ebosele will miss out again due to illness but otherwise manager Wayne Rooney has no fresh injury or suspension concerns going into the fixture.

Striker Colin Kazim-Richards remains a long-term absentee with an achilles injury sustained against Peterborough United in August.

Polish international midfielder Krystian Bielik, who suffered an ACL knee injury in January of this year, is making good progress in his rehabilitation work but is still not yet in a position to return to full training.

MANAGER'S THOUGHTS…

Manager Wayne Rooney offered his pre-match views to RamsTV on Tuesday afternoon and said: “It will be a very difficult game; Reading are quite a fluid team in possession and there are no real patterns to how they play.

“Players turn up in various positions on the pitch, so we will have to be disciplined in how we approach things.

“We will have to use the fans inside the stadium with the atmosphere they will create for us. We will try and press them at the right times and put them under pressure.”

He added: “We were disappointed to lose on Saturday at Sheffield United, but we will dust ourselves down and be ready for a big game against Reading.”

FROM THE DRESSING ROOM…

Skipper Tom Lawrence offered his pre-match views to RamsTV on Tuesday before training.

He said: “We can’t do anything about what happens on the outside, we’ve got to focus on what happens on the pitch,” he said. “I think our performances have been good.

"We should have more points than what we have picked up, even though we have got the minus 12, but our job is to get three points every week and we look forward to doing that against Reading."

MATCH OFFICIALS…

John Busby will oversee Wednesday night's game.

Busby has overseen eight games so far this season in all competitions, showing 35 yellow cards and two reds in the process.

He has made the step up to Championship matches for the 2021/22 season.

Busby will be assisted by Sam Lewis and Akil Howson on the lines, whilst Keith Stroud has been appointed as the fourth official.

EFL SUBSTITUTE RULES…

The five substitutions rule has been scrapped for the 2021/22 season, the English Football League confirmed in July.

The rule allowing clubs to make five changes, as opposed to the usual three, was brought in following football's restart in June 2020 after a break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Given that games had to be condensed into a short period of time it was thought beneficial and allowed managers to make as many as five changes in three intervals during a match.

Clubs had a longer post-break between seasons this time around and so the temporary rule has been changed.

Teams will be able to name seven substitutes but only use a maximum of three.

STREAMING INFORMATION…

With COVID-19 capacity restrictions lifted and EFL fixtures being played in front of full crowds once again, the temporary change in streaming rules is no longer valid.
