Team News

Derby are waiting on the results of captain Curtis Davies’ scan on his injured quad muscle to learn how long the central defender will be out of action for. The 37-year-old sat out the 2-1 home win over Barnsley after suffering the injury in training last week and has been ruled out of the trip to Shrewsbury.

Defender James Chester is edging closer to a return to the squad after a spell out with an achilles issue. The central defender has sat out the side’s opening four matches of the 2022/23 season in all competitions so far after featuring twice in pre-season following his arrival from Stoke City in July.

New signing Joe Anang could feature in the matchday squad after signing on a season-long loan deal from Premier League side West Ham United over the weekend. The goalkeeper has been playing regular first team football in Ireland in recent months during a loan stint at St Patrick’s and will compete with Joe Wildsmith and Scott Loach for a place between the posts.

Coaching Staff Views

First Team Development Coach Justin Walker caught up with RamsTV in the lead-up to Tuesday's clash with the Shrews.

He said: "I think over the years, any Steve Cotterill team you are going to face a tough test and a challenge. You are going to be asked to defend and they’re very forward-thinking in what they do. It’s for us to stand up and deal with that and try to impose our game on them."

From The Dressing Room

New signing Joseph Anang caught up with RamsTV to look ahead to Derby's first midweek league fixture of the campaign.

The goalkeeper said: "I’m too excited. For the past month I knew I was coming here so, in my head, I wanted to be here. Derby County, we all know how big this club is, so I’m just too excited to get started."

About The Opposition

Shrewsbury, managed by experienced boss Steve Cotterill, have picked up one win, one draw and one defeat from their opening three fixtures of the 2022/23 League One campaign.

The Shrews started the season with a hard-earned 0-0 draw at Morecambe on the opening day, before disappointingly being defeated 1-0 by Accrington Stanley in their first home fixture of the season.

However, they registered their first league win of the season in impressive fashion at the weekend as Luke Leahy’s late penalty secured a 2-1 victory on the road at Wycombe Wanderers. The hosts had taken the lead just after half time, but Matthew Pennington quickly equalised, before Leahy netted from 12 yards with time running out to round off a resilient away showing.

Cotterill oversaw an 18th placed finish for the Shrews in the 2021/22 season and conducted some smart business in the transfer market during the summer by adding midfield pair Jordan Shipley from Coventry City and Preston North End’s Tom Bayliss to the ranks on a permanent basis, as well as forward Aiden O’Brien from Portsmouth and defender Chey Dunkley from Sheffield Wednesday.

In addition, defenders Julien Dacosta and Taylor Moore have been recruited on loan from Championship sides Coventry City and Bristol City for the season.

This season’s meetings with Shrewsbury will be the first in the league against Derby since the 1986/87 campaign under Arthur Cox. A solitary goal from Phil Gee earned the Rams a 1-0 win at Gay Meadow in October 1986, while a 3-1 success followed at the Baseball Ground in March 1987 courtesy of a brace from Bobby Davison and a strike from Nigel Callaghan.

Rams On The Road

Ahead of each away game this season we'll be running a feature via RamsTV called 'Rams On The Road'.

In the second instalment of the season, we take a look at our history and links with Shrewsbury Town.

Match Officials

Scott Oldham has been appointed as the Match Referee for Tuesday night's game.

The official took charge of 34 games in the 2021/22 campaign, showing 100 yellow cards and two reds.

He will be assisted by Conor Brown and Nik Barnard on the lines, whilst Matt Corlett has been appointed as the fourth official.

Ticket Information

Derby allocation of tickets for the game have sold out.

The Rams were handed a total allocation of 1,652 tickets for the match and these have now completely sold out.

Those fans without a ticket are advised not to make the journey to Shrewsbury, as they will be unable to gain access to the stadium.
