Derby County’s Under-21s will hit the road for the first time in their 2022/23 Premier League 2 - Division 2 season on Friday night when they head north to face Middlesbrough.


The Under-21s will take on Boro at Bishop Auckland's Heritage Park (7pm kick-off) and dcfc.co.uk has brought together all the key information you will need to know ahead of the game.

Under-21s boss Pat Lyons is expected to have a fairly youthful group to call upon once again as his squad steadily takes shape for the season, although a number of his more experienced players are currently sidelined.

Striker Bartosz Cybulski has been out of action with an injury of late but the striker is edging towards a return to action after returning to training.

Defender Max Bardell (hamstring) and midfield pair Courtney Clarke (foot) and Connor Dixon (hamstring) are still working their way back to fitness after suffering injuries towards the end of the 2021/22 campaign. Defender Harrison Solomon has also been out of action in recent weeks, but is stepping up his workload.


Recent signing Jake Rooney, after impressing for the first team in the Carabao Cup Round One tie at Mansfield Town on Tuesday in a holding midfield role, could feature once again in defence.

2022/23 Season So Far...

Derby’s Under-21s started the 2022/23 season with a 5-2 defeat against Leeds United at Pride Park Stadium last Friday.


Pat Lyons’ side were three goals down at the break but sparked a comeback with midfielder Osazee Aghatise pulling two goals back by the hour mark.

Leeds, however, added two further goals to pick up all three points in season opener.
