Pre-Match Thoughts: Cashin Relishing Return To Mansfield

Derby County defender Eiran Cashin is relishing a return to his hometown when the Rams take on Mansfield Town in the Papa Johns Trophy on Tuesday evening.

It will be the second time already this season that Derby have taken on the Stags at the One Call Stadium with the first match-up coming in a 2-1 win in the Carabao Cup back in August.

Speaking to RamsTV prior to this latest meeting, Cashin spoke about the task ahead, the influence of Paul Warne in the last week and much more...

On the trip to Mansfield…

I'm looking forward to it. It was good to get a win away at Cambridge on Saturday. It was a good result. It was nice to finally score and win away from home, which is good. We'll take that into tomorrow at Mansfield. We want to make sure we're at it, make sure we win again and try and get a run put together.

On Paul Warne and the new management team…

They've been really good, really nice, warm and welcoming. But he's made major changes in the way that we want to play. He's basically come in and just simplified thing a little bit and basically just said: 'this is what we're going to do, we're going to work harder than them we're going to press from the front and we're going to we're going get at them all game.' When we have the ball, he wants us to get the ball wide and into one-on-ones. He's backed us as the better team to be able to beat the opposition, no matter who we come up against.

On what Paul Warne is like behind closed doors…

He's exactly the same. He's a good guy but he can be serious. He has good banter and that's enjoyable but when it's time to be serious, he is and gets the information across and gives us what we need to know going into games.

On how much work has been put in in a short space of time…

I had the international break away with Ireland's Under-21s so I was a bit behind the other lads and had two days to catch up on what I'd missed out on. I've just really concentrated on what I needed to know and to be fair they've been great with us all and got a lot of information into us very quickly. Obviously there's still things we can work on and still things that we can improve on but overall I think we've we've took it in quite well.

On the international periodwith Republic of Ireland Under-21s…

Obviously it's always an honour to represent your country. The lads I was with are great lads. Unfortunately, we didn't qualify for the Under-21 European Championships, but it was a good shift. Sadly, it was unfortunately down to penalties. It's a tough, tough way to go out.

On whether he looks back on how far he’s come…

Until you say it, not really. It's a short career and I think I'm just going to try and keep kicking on and obviously it's nice to know that I've played every minute and stuff like that, but I want to play every minute for every game in the whole season.

As much as it's nice to look back and look where I've come from, I think more importantly for me I need to look forward and look at how can you get better and keep improving.
