Goalkeeper Luke McGee says he 'couldn't wait to get a deal done' from the minute he heard Derby County were interested in securing his services.

The shot-stopper has joined the Rams on loan from fellow Sky Bet League One side Forest Green Rovers until the end of the 2022/23 season, to add further depth to the goalkeeping team, and is eager to get going and help Paul Warne's squad in what is set to be an extremely important next few months.

Speaking to RamsTV after sealing his move, McGee spoke of his delight at getting the deal over the line and how he's hoping that his recent promotion experience with Forest Green can benefit the Rams in the second half of the campaign.

On his first impressions of Derby County...

I've had a little look around and the facilities, the lads and everyone around the place seems really good. The place is amazing so I'm really looking forward to getting going.

On conversations with the coaching staff...

Everything has been positive. I've had some really good conversations with the gaffer and Andy Warrington. As soon as I found out that a move was a possibility it was something I wanted to get done as soon as possible and luckily that has happened.

My time at Forest Green Rovers came to a halt pretty quickly so as soon as that happened I knew I needed to look for other options so over the past couple of days, when I found out Derby were interested, we pushed to get a move done as soon as possible.

On his career to date...

I've been at Forest Green for the last two and half years and before that I was at Portsmouth for a few years. Prior to that I came through the ranks of Tottenham Hotspur and was there from the age of 10 right up until 21.

On bringing his experience of promotion last year to Pride Park...

The experience of trying to get over the line and getting the job done will definitely help myself and hopefully the team but there's a lot of experienced lads in this squad that have been in that position too and done very well in their careers so far. I think everyone together can really push the team and the club to where they want to be and where they should be.

It's not always going to go your way. The club is on a fantastic run at the moment and if that was to ever go wrong then it's about going back to the basics, sticking together as a squad to then achieve the end result that everyone wants.

On the role he expects at the club...

Joe Wildsmith has been fantastic. My job is to come here and push him with Scott Loach and make sure he's as good as possible, keep the performance level high and hopefully help him and help myself too.

On working with Andy Warrington and the other keepers...

It's a wide range of experience so having us all together can only help ourselves. Each of us can push and improve individually but also collectively as well as a group of goalkeepers and as a club too.

On his experience of Pride Park earlier in the campaign when Derby were 4-0 winners against Forest Green...

You get a feel for it as soon as you come into the stadium. When the game started you got a feel for the passion, that's what hit me straightaway and you get a feel for that as an opposition team too. The performance that the boys put in that day was suffocating at times but it's an amazing place to be now.
