Pre-Match Thoughts: Rams Looking To Build On Cheltenham Win Says Wildsmith

Derby County goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith says the team may need to be patient to break down an in-form Shrewsbury Town side this weekend.

The Rams face a Shrews team in fine form going into the contest and the squad are under no illusions as to how difficult a task may be at hand against a side chasing a place in the division's top six.

Wildsmith sat down with RamsTV to give his thoughts ahead of another big Sky Bet League One fixture.

On Tuesday's win over Cheltenham...

I think it was a good reaction from the boys after last Saturday's loss at Barnsley. We wanted to get that out of our system and come out with a positive result and it was good to get the win and the clean-sheet for confidence all around the team.

On David McGoldrick's form...

He's clinical. His mentality on the ball is two or even three passes in front of everyone else. He's know what he's doing and it's not even just the touches he does, his body movement can send people off and he's a very intelligent player.

Even at the age he's at now, you can still see the standard that he keeps up himself. He's a great asset for the club and for us as team-mates. I'd rather him be up front for us than someone else, put it that way.

On Shrewsbury Town...

We know that it's going to be quite direct, there's going to be a lot of crosses coming in and we know it's going to be physical.

It's about getting our mentality right for the game and getting some visual representations of what they'll bring in training. We know it's going to be a tough game. Shrewsbury are on a good run, they will work hard and be physical and direct but on the other hand we know they may sit off and make it difficult for us to break through. It's nothing that we can't battle against or score against and get joy against - it's just about being patient on the ball and being clinical when we get those chances.

On trying to start another unbeaten run...

The gaffer mentions it all the time, about putting runs together. The drive is to put those runs together and we've started another one with the win on Tuesday night and hopefully we can carry that on this weekend.
