Derby County Under-21s defender Ryan Bartley has been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for December 2023.

The 20-year-old centre-back, who missed the start of the campaign with an ankle injury, featured in both of the Under-21s’ Premier League 2 fixtures in the final month of the calendar year.

He scored twice in the 5-1 home win over Reading and proved to be a real threat from the Rams’ set plays throughout the clash with the Royals.

Bartley was also named in the starting line-up, as well as wearing the captain’s armband, as the Under-21s went down to a last minute 2-1 defeat at Southampton just before Christmas.

The defender, who joined Jake Buxton’s side from Crystal Palace in the summer, has been nominated for the award by the Premier League and is up against Norwich City pair Vicente Reyes and Kenneth Abo, Luke Harris of Fulham, Justin Hubner from Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham United’s Callum Marshall and Francis Okoronkwo of Everton.

Nominees were selected by the Premier League Football Development Panel, who will also decide the winner.
