Former Derby County defender and captain Curtis Davies was presented with the Sir Tom Finney Award at this year’s EFL Awards.
The accolade is given out in recognition of a player who has made an outstanding contribution to football and the League.
Davies, who picked up the award at Sunday night’s ceremony, called time on a career that spanned 20 years in August 2024 with 685 professional appearances to his name.
He played for eight clubs across his career, starting at Luton Town, where he made his Championship debut at 18 years old in November 2003 and went on to feature 62 times for the Bedfordshire outfit.
Before joining Derby, he spent time with West Bromwich Albion (73 appearances), Aston Villa (68 appearances), Leicester City (12 appearances), Birmingham City (106 appearances) and most notably Hull City (144 appearances).
His time with the Tigers saw him don the armband as they won promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs and reached the FA Cup Final, where Davies scored at Wembley Stadium against Arsenal.
The centre-back joined Derby ahead of the 2017/18 season and gave six years of service to the club.
He featured 175 times in black and white and was a pivotal figure in the dressing room under the tutelage of six different managers.
At age 37, he was awarded the Supporters’ Club Player of the Year and Jack Stamps Player of the Season trophies, which recognised his contribution as he played every minute of the Rams’ 2021/22 Sky Bet Championship campaign.
He also captained the side on multiple occasions and was named as captain ahead of the 2022/23 Sky Bet League One season.
After leaving the club in May 2023, he joined Cheltenham Town for a short stint before announcing his retirement. Since leaving the playing side of the game, he has been a regular fixture on Sky Sports as a pundit on their EFL coverage.
