NEW CONTRACT: Liam Thompson signs new Derby County deal

Derby County’s reigning Sammy Crooks Young Player of the Season Liam Thompson has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

The 23-year-old’s fresh deal will run until the end of the 2026/27 season.

Thompson emerged as a key player during the second half of Derby’s 2024/25 Sky Bet Championship campaign.

He started each of the Rams’ six wins under John Eustace and formed part of a strong midfield unit alongside captain Ebou Adams and Everton loanee Harrison Armstrong.

The Academy graduate made 31 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal against Chesterfield in Round One of the Carabao Cup.

His performances saw him voted as Derby’s Young Player of the Season at the club’s End of Season Dinner in April.

Overall, Thompson has played 106 times and scored three goals for the Rams since graduating from the Academy.
