NEW SIGNING INTERVIEW: Sanderson ‘delighted’ to make Derby loan switch

Dion Sanderson has admitted he is ‘delighted’ to be reunited with Head Coach John Eustace after sealing his move to Derby County.

The defender has linked up with Derby on a season-long loan from fellow Championship side Birmingham City, for what will be his fourth spell at a club under the tutelage of Eustace.

He was managed by the Derby boss at Blackburn Rovers last season, having previously worked with him at Queens Park Rangers, where Eustace was on the coaching staff, and Birmingham.

At Birmingham, his leadership qualities saw him handed the captaincy of the Blues by Eustace.

RamsTV caught up with the 25-year-old defender after completing the loan switch to Pride Park Stadium.

On his relationship with John Eustace…

I think he's a quality person, a quality manager. The fans, anyone that's worked with him, players and staff, would say that. You just have to see what he did last season - it was incredible.

I really enjoy my work under him. I know what he wants from me and I'm just glad to be here.

I had him as an assistant at QPR. We got on really well there, and then he went to Birmingham after that. In the season where he made me the captain, for the first six months he was there, I was probably playing the best football I've played so far - and he brought that out of me.

On his impression of the club…

I'm delighted to be a Derby County player. This is a very professional club, well run. Even if the gaffer wasn’t here, I think if Derby come calling for you, it's a club that's hard to turn down. I'm really delighted to be a part of it.

On his playing style out on the pitch…

I like to bring a lot of aggression, big tackles, diagonal balls - a bit of everything, I guess. I want to excite the fans, I want them to get off their seats and to be cheering us. I want to make it exciting for them, and hopefully, we can have a successful season.
