PRE-MATCH INTERVIEW: Morris looks forward to West Brom clash and reflects on ‘awesome’ start in a Derby shirt

Striker Carlton Morris has reflected on his ‘awesome’ start to life at Derby County as the side look ahead to their visit to West Bromwich Albion in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon.

Derby will head to The Hawthorns for the second time so far this season, having previously come out on top via penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw in a Carabao Cup Round One tie last month.

Morris has got off to a flying start in Derby colours, scoring four goals in his first four starts for the Rams and will be hoping to continue his form when the Rams head to the Black Country on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

RamsTV spoke to Morris ahead of Saturday’s trip to The Hawthorns following the international break.

On his start to life with the club…

Throughout my career, I've had a few clubs, it's always been about settling in early. If you settle in well, then you're more likely to hit the ground running. I think it's a credit to the football club and the area; it's a community-feel football club, and I felt so settled so quickly, which has really helped, and that's transitioned to on-pitch performance.

On his current run of form…

It's an awesome feeling, to be honest, because you're going into every game almost expecting to score or at least get an opportunity and backing yourself to take it. When you're in form, it falls a bit differently; it's funny, really, but it's one of the nuances of football.

On summer recruitment and becoming a crucial part of the squad…

The club had a foundation here before the summer of a humble, hard-working group of lads, and the recruitment guys and the gaffer have done a great job of bringing in people who have the quality and have the hunger as well. That humble hunger is absolutely crucial at this level of football. The Championship's one of the most difficult leagues in the world for a reason, because there's so much quality on show and there's so much hunger and aggression as well. We've got that blend, and I feel the new boys are really gelling with the boys that were here before as well.

On facing in-form West Brom after the international break…

If you look through the whole schedule, there's not going to be an easy game this season. Previously, when I've had success, that's the mentality of myself and the squads I’ve been in. There's not going to be an easy fixture. Every game, we're going to need to be 100% at it on and off the ball. That's not just physically, that's doing the details and playing with our minds as well.
