CLUB NEWS: Derby County Confirm Talent ID Staff Update

Derby County are delighted to welcome two new additions to the club's senior management team within the football department.

Leigh Bromby has signed a permanent contract as Talent Acquisition Lead, and Ben Jones joins him as Talent Identification Lead.

Leigh Bromby

Following a successful period with the club as Interim Recruitment Lead, Bromby is taking up the role of Talent Acquisition Lead.

He will be working in tandem with John Eustace in the final stages of identifying players who fit the strategy of both the head coach and the club, working closely with Chief Executive Officer Stephen Pearce.

As part of his duties, Bromby will be responsible for negotiations to conclude transfers, including due diligence on players, again working alongside the chief executive officer.

The Talent Acquisition Lead is also responsible for pulling together coaching, performance and scouting strategies.

Bromby will also assist in the implementation of the new performance and coaching team that has been assembled for the enhanced development plans of several first team players and academy graduates, such as Owen Eames, Cruz Allen and Isaac Gordon.

Bromby has already made a positive impact during his time with the club, playing a vital role in the recruitment of players such as Patrick Agyemang, among others.

Ben Jones

Jones joins from the Football Association, where he has held a role in talent identification.

His role as the Talent Identification Lead with Derby will be focused on scouting for the Men’s First Team through to the Academy, working closely with Talent Acquisition Lead Leigh Bromby.

Jones’ core strengths and experience are aligned with the club’s approach of using both traditional scouting and data-driven models to identify potential players for the club.

His previous roles include a position at Chelsea, where he spent two years as their Lead Academy Recruitment analyst.

Prior to that, Jones spent six years at the England & Wales Cricket Board as a Performance Pathway Scientist, obtaining a doctorate in Talent Identification and Development.

After Derby appointed Fabian Unwin from Chelsea as Data and Analytics Lead in December, the recruitment of Bromby and Jones concludes the next phase in the creation of the club’s sporting intelligence department.

Everyone at Derby County would like to extend a warm welcome to both Leigh and Ben and wish them every success in their new roles.
