Head Coach, First Team Coach and Goalkeeping Coach put pen-to-paper on new deals with Derby County.

Derby County is delighted to announce that Head Coach Steve McClaren and his coaching staff have signed new contracts with the Club.

McClaren, along with First Team Coach Paul Simpson and Goalkeeping Coach Eric Steele, have put pen-to-paper on new deals until the summer of 2017.

The trio joined Derby at the end of September 2013 and masterminded a club record points total and third place finish in the Sky Bet Championship during the 2013/14 season.

As a result, Derby have been quick to secure their services on new long-term deals to extend their stays at the iPro Stadium ahead of the start of the 2014/15 campaign.

McClaren commented: “I’m delighted to sign a new contract with Derby County, along with Paul Simpson and Eric Steele who are vital members of our coaching structure.

“Derby County is a club that is close to all our hearts and we’re all delighted to commit our futures to what continues to be an exciting project.

“I have enjoyed working alongside President & Chief Executive Sam Rush and the rest of the Executive Team, as well as the Ownership Group who have a fantastic passion for the Club to be successful.

“The fans have bought into what we’re trying to achieve and their backing has been nothing short of magnificent.

“The Club is continuing to grow and we’re all happy to be part of it; the future is exciting for Derby County.”

He added: “Last season ended in heartbreaking fashion but we all have our focus on the future now and there’s a real excitement for the season ahead.”

President & Chief Executive Sam Rush commented: “I’m delighted that Steve, Paul and Eric have all signed new contracts ahead of the new season.

“This is a key period for the Club and off the back of a number of key players signing new contracts this summer it has been a priority for the management team to follow suit.

“It is fantastic that they have shown their commitment to Derby County in this way.

“There have been a number of changes on and off the field in the last year and I have very much enjoyed working alongside Steve, Paul and Eric.

“They share the same ambition as ourselves to reach the Premier League and I believe with them at the helm we have a fantastic chance of achieving our goals.”

A former player with the Rams between 1985 and 1988 and a Second Division title-winner, McClaren also tasted success as Jim Smith’s assistant during the Rams’ promotion campaign to the top flight in the 1995/96 season.

Simpson, who made over 800 career appearances and was with Derby between 1992 and 1997, making over 200 appearances and scoring 57 goals, has managerial experience from spells at Rochdale, Carlisle United, Preston North End, Shrewsbury Town, Stockport County and Northwich Victoria.

Steele, who was Manchester United’s goalkeeping coach until the summer of 2013 and held a similar position at Derby in the late 1990s. He was a player with the Rams between 1984 and 1987 and was part of the Division Three and Division Two promotion-winning sides under Arthur Cox.

Derby’s record under McClaren has seen an impressive 24 wins recorded in all competitions from 41 games.
