Born in Leeds, John Peacock’s journey into football began with a relatively short playing career as he seven seasons – between 1974 and 1980 – with Scunthorpe United where he played over 200 Football League and Cup appearances as a full back before retiring.Peacock pursued a career in coaching and took up his first position with the FA in 1990, where he held the position of Regional Director in the Midlands.He held the position for eight years, before he moved to Coventry City as a Football Development Officer and then Derby County as Academy Director.Peacock’s first spell with the Rams proved to be hugely fruitful as a number of the players under his guidance made the step up from the Academy to the first team.A number of players went on to become internationals as well with 14 Derby players becoming recognised youth internationals and three being Under 21 internationals.Peacock returned to the FA in 2002 and has held the role of overseeing the England Under 17 group for the last 13 years.During this period as a National Coach, he achieved great success – starting with four place finishes in the 2003 and 2004 European Championship tournaments in Portugal and France.In 2007, Peacock and England’s Under 17s narrowly missed out on the European title after being defeated by Spain in the final in Belgium before they also reached the Quarter-Finals of the World Cup.Three years later, Derby’s new Assistant Coach guided England to their first trophy in 17 years as they lifted the European title in Liechtenstein by defeating the 2007 & 2008 winners Spain.They achieved the same together four years later as Peacock oversaw England defeat Netherlands to lift their second title in Malta.Amongst the high profile players he has worked with in his role at England, Peacock has developed the likes of Raheem Sterling, Ross Barkley, Danny Welbeck and Saido Berahino.Considered a specialist in youth development and coach education, Peacock’s final act was to guide the Under 17 group into the finals of the World Cup in Chile, which will be contested in October.Peacock leaves England boasting an impressive 69% win ratio that he has built up from his time in European competitions.Tweets by @ dcfcofficial
