Derby County would like to offer its best wishes to former skipper Robin van der Laan after he underwent a heart operation.
It is understood that the 47-year-old had surgery after he suffered chest pains whilst coaching in Saudi Arabia.
Van der Laan wrote himself into club folklore after playing a key role in Derby's 1995/96 promotion-winning campaign under Jim Smith.
The midfielder scored the winning goal in a 2-1 success against Crystal Palace at the Baseball Ground in April 1996, which secured promotion to the Premiership.
Derby County’s President & Chief Executive Sam Rush said: “On behalf of everyone at Derby County Football Club I would like to wish Robin a speedy recovery.
“He is a popular individual who supporters hold in very high regard and we all send our best wishes to him.”
After joining the Rams from Port Vale in the summer of 1995, van der Laan made 77 appearances for the club and scored on 11 occasions.
