dcfc.co.uk takes a look at how Derby County’s five international players fared during Tuesday’s games.
Ikechi Anya came off the bench as Scotland fell to a 3-0 defeat away to Slovakia in their latest 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier to win his 23rd full international cap.
Robert Mak scored twice while Adam Nemec also got his name on the scoresheet on a disappointing night for the Tartan Army, with Anya entering the action after 64 minutes when Gordon Strachan’s side were two goals down.
Out-on-loan Derby striker Chris Martin, who joined Fulham until May 2017 back in August, was an unused substitute.
Scotland - who have finished fourth in their last two qualifying campaigns - now trail Lithuania and Slovenia by a point after slipping to fourth place in the group. England remain top of the standings after three games.
Elsewhere in World Cup qualifying, striker Matej Vydra was an unused substitute as the Czech Republic played out a frustrating 0-0 draw at home to Azerbaijan.
Vydra had started in their 3-0 defeat away to Germany at the weekend but, as the hosts chased a goal in order to secure their first win of the qualifying campaign, he was not brought off the bench.
At youth international level, goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell was an unused substitute for England’s Under 21s as they thrashed Bosnia & Herzegovina 5-0 at Walsall’s Banks’s Stadium.
The Young Lions brought their UEFA European U21 Championship Group 9 Qualification campaign to an impressive conclusion, after securing their place in next summer’s finals in Poland last week.
Goals from John Swift, Tammy Abraham (2) Josh Onomah and Duncan Watmore secured the convincing victory for Aidy Boothroyd’s side.
Also at Under 21 level, Academy graduate Calum Macdonald came off the bench late on as Scotland’s Under 21s lost 2-0 away to Macedonia in their final UEFA European U21 Championship qualifier.
Left-back Macdonald, a regular face for Derby’s Under 23s this season after signing professional terms in the summer, was introduced off the bench with nine minutes remaining to win his first Under 21 cap.
Finally, midfielder Timi Max Elsnik played the entire game as Slovenia’s Under 19s claimed a 5-0 win over Estonia.
The youngster, who made his first-team debut for Derby in August, was in impressive form and also registered an assist.
The win, however, was not enough to secure a place in the UEFA Under 19 Championships Elite round for Slovenia’s Under 19s, with the Czech Republic and France progressing from the four-team group.
