Calum Macdonald has received his latest call up to the Scotland Under 21s squad ahead of the third international break of the campaign later this month.
The 18-year-old Derby County Under 23s full back saw his form over 2016 rewarded with a first-ever call up by the Tartan Army last month, but that has been followed up with this latest selection.
Macdonald made his debut as a late substitute for Scotland’s Under 21s against Macedonia last month and will be looking to build on that when Scot Gemmill’s side take on Slovakia in an international challenge match.
The meeting will see Macdonald and co fly out to their European opponents for the friendly meeting, which will be played at Stadium Myjava on Wednesday 9 November, kick-off: 4:30pm local time.
Ahead of the game, Macdonald’s coach, Gemmill, the son of Derby legend Archie, says it is a big chance for the full back and several his younger players to impress and make their mark on his squad moving forward.
He told the media: “This match will offer the players another tough test as Slovakia have qualified for next summer’s finals.
“I think it’s important we continue to face strong opposition and challenge the players every time they come away with us.
“I’ve included a couple of new faces and hopefully they will see this as their opportunity to impress.
“I said last month that I will leave no stone unturned in finding the best young players for the under-21 squad and this is a good chance for some new ones to come in and make their mark.”
