Derby Set New Club Record For Successive Home Clean Sheets

Derby County set a new club record in their 1-0 home win over Birmingham City in the Sky Bet Championship.

Striker Darren Bent’s second half penalty secured a fifth successive win on home turf for the Rams, before a full house of over 32,600 supporters at Pride Park Stadium.

The clean sheet against the Blues was Derby’s seventh in a row in the league on home turf, which is a new club record.

Derby haven’t conceded a goal at home since 24th September and, in fact, the Rams are yet to concede a goal at Pride Park since Steve McClaren returned as manager in mid-October.

The previous club record was six in a row at home and was achieved twice in the club’s history before this season, with both coming during the Rams’ days at the Baseball Ground.

The first was a crossover from the end of the 1923/24 season and the beginning of the 1924/25 campaign, while the second came across the end of 1962/63 and then the start of 1963/64.

The class of 2016/17 were the first to do it in in a single season and achieved that feat when they defeated local rivals Nottingham Forest 3-0 earlier this month.

However, they now proudly hold the record for the most clean sheets in a row at home in the league following the shut-out against Birmingham.

Derby’s Run Of Clean Sheets

15th October Vs Leeds United, Won 1-0
18th October Vs Brentford, Drew 0-0
29th October Vs Sheffield Wednesday, Won 2-0
19th November Vs Rotherham United, Won 3-0
26th November Vs Norwich City, Won 1-0
11th December Vs Nottingham Forest, Won 3-0
27th December Vs Birmingham City, Won 1-0

Speaking after the win over Birmingham, McClaren said: “It’s some achievement and that’s down to everyone, not just the goalkeeper and the back four.

“Bradley Johnson in front of the defenders has been excellent, the midfielders and widemen work so hard. Everyone is involved in clean sheets.

“You saw at the end, everyone was defending our penalty box with their lives and it’s been a real team effort.

“The team ethic and togetherness is something you need and can’t win games without it. It’s our bedrock; the spirit, togetherness and the desire to work hard.

“That’s what they’re doing and as a result we’re getting the rewards for it.”
