U18s Suffer First Defeat In Seven After 4-2 Loss At Everton

Derby County Under-18s fell to 4-2 defeat at the hands of Premier League – North leaders, Everton at USM Finch Farm.

Justin Walker’s side took the lead early in the first half when Morgan Whittaker’s superb strike from outside of the penalty area flew into the top corner.

Everton levelled the match for the first time just two minutes later when their captain, Kieran Phillips converted from the penalty spot after Jordan Brown’s foul gave away the spot-kick.

A minute later, Derby regained the lead, this time Whittaker was the provider with his free-kick being turned in by Archie Brown.

The Toffees put the tie all-square again 15 minutes later, with Ellis Simms putting away his chance after being sent through on goal by Pawel Zuk.

Hosts Everton then took the lead shortly before half-time. Bobby Carroll’s corner was headed in at the near post by Phillips.

Derby came close on several occasions to getting an equaliser, with Whittaker and Jason Knight having a number of good opportunities between them. Jordan Brown almost levelled the match with an improvised header which forced a good save out of home goalkeeper, Harry Tyrer.

Everton sealed the victory in the closing stages, Simms got his second of the afternoon, converting at the end of a corner from close range.
