Goalkeeper Scott Carson has stressed the importance of striving for consistency as he prepares to face one of his former clubs this weekend.

Carson enjoyed a nine-game loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday in 2006 from Premier League side Liverpool and helped them avoid relegation to League One.

Spells at West Bromwich Albion, Bursaspor and Wigan Athletic followed before signing for the Rams in 2015.

Carson has experienced a number of seasons in the Championship and knows the Rams need to put together, and maintain, a good run of results to be in contention near the end of the season.

“This is a massive part of the season,” Carson told RamsTV. “This is where you need to get a lot of consistency and get a good run going. You can’t be looking to the breaks to get a rest or look for one if you’re not having a good time of results.

“We know what is expected now and we need to perform week in, week out. There are going to be set backs but if we bounce back like we have before, especially in this run of games, this is where the league starts settling down and takes shape.

“We need to just keep picking up the points and go on a good run from now until then and see where we are.”

Derby enjoyed a good set of results between prior to the November international break.

In five games, the Rams recorded three wins, one draw and one defeat.

That loss came in the last game against another of his former clubs Aston Villa and Carson admitted the players are keen to get back on track.

“It’s all about us and it always has been since the manager came in,” he said. “We have got to get back to what we were doing in the four games before Villa and put that out of our mind and we have done that in the last two weeks of training.

“Without the Villa game, we would have taken the points we did before. Everyone knew we had a tough run before the last international break so to do what we did and come out with the points we did was a good run of games.

“The last game was a big disappointment, but it is the Championship and things like this are going to happen. It’s all about how we recover, we’ve done it well in the past, so we will be looking forward to making amends on Saturday.”
