Derby County youngster Jason Knight made his debut for the Republic of Ireland's Under-21s in the Maurice Revello Toulon Tournament yesterday.

The 18-year-old appeared as a 63-rd minute substitute as he replaced Wolves’ Connor Ronan in a convincing 4-1 win over China in their opening group fixture.

Stephen Kenny’s men were already 3-1 ahead when he was introduced. Goals from Watford's Zach Elbouzedi and Brighton’s Aaron Connolly put Ireland in command before Li Yang’s header pulled a goal back for China.

The game was safe in the second half as two penalties from Norwich City's Adam Uche Idah sent the Under-21s top of Group C.

It’s been a good couple of weeks for the midfielder, who was a substitute for the Play-Off Semi Final Second Leg against Leeds United at Elland Road and the Play-Off Final against Aston Villa at Wembley.

Knight will hope to once again feature on Thursday as the Republic of Ireland take on Mexico, who also won their first game of the tournament, in the second fixture of the competition.
