New signing Kieran Dowell is looking forward to learning under boss Phillip Cocu as he sets his sights on pushing for promotion with Derby County.

The attacking midfielder has signed for the Rams on a season-long loan from Everton and has joined his new team-mates in Florida as preparations for the 2019/20 season continue.

Dowell already has a promotion on his CV as he helped Sheffield United reach the Premier League last season and he is eyeing the same outcome with Derby County under the new boss this season.

“I feel like my last two loans have been brilliant,” he told RamsTV. “I really enjoyed them and I want the same platform to go and play.

“With this manager and this club, with the success that they have nearly had over the past couple of years, I feel like they are in a good position to go and push again and to get promoted this season. That’s what I want to do here.

“I’ve learned that the most consistent teams are the most successful. Sheffield United were brilliant at seeing out games. I’m a young lad but I was part of a promotion so I’ve got that under my belt now and I feel that is going to benefit me lots.”

The Everton loanee held conversations with Cocu on the phone prior to his arrival in Florida and has been impressed with what the manager has had to say to him.

“He has been really welcoming and his staff have been really nice,” he said. “He wants me to create and score, he likes that side of my game. That’s what I want as well, so we’re on the same page in that sense.

“He has got a great pedigree in the game with how well he has done at PSV for five years there and won three titles there so he is a winner.

“That’s what I’m like as well and that’s what I like. The Dutch are great tacticians as well and with his playing career, he’s got a lot that he can pass on to me.”

He was out on the training pitch for the first time this morning as the Rams prepare for their second pre-season friendly in Florida against Bristol City on Saturday.

“It was good” he admitted. “It’s really stuffy out here and really hot but it’s great facilities out here.

“The lads have been brilliant with me and the sessions the coaches put on were good as well so I’m happy with how it’s going so far.”
