Max Lowe felt there was plenty to be positive about following Derby County’s 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

The Rams were forced to settle for just a point in what proved to be an entertaining Sky Bet Championship clash in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Saturday lunchtime.

Derby took the lead early on at Pride Park Stadium through striker Martyn Waghorn from the penalty spot after he was fouled in the box.

The 29-year-old striker could have doubled his tally from 12 yards before half-time, but his second spot-kick of the game was saved by Sam Johnstone in the Albion goal.

Kenneth Zohore levelled for the Baggies with six minutes of normal time remaining after Lowe was adjudged to have fouled Matheus Pereira.

Derby had chances to win the game either side of Zohore’s equaliser, with midfielder Jason Knight and substitute Mason Bennett both going agonisingly close.

Despite being frustrated at not claiming all three points, Lowe was keen to focus on the positives when speaking to Sky Sports after the final whistle.

The defender said: “I thought that we started the first half really strongly.

“It was in our mindset to start well because we had been starting slow in a few games recently.

“It’s just a shame we didn’t get the second goal really to put the game to bed.

“We played well in the second half as well, I thought, and it was a good performance overall.

“We had some great chances and I thought we played really well.”

Lowe was one of four Academy graduates in Derby’s starting line-up against the Baggies.

Jason Knight and Lee Buchanan made their first-ever league starts in the game, whilst midfielder Tom Huddlestone played the full 90 minutes for Phillip Cocu’s side

Another Academy product, Mason Bennett, came off the bench late on.
