Andre Wisdom says it’s a ‘good feeling’ to have England and Manchester United’s all-time leading goal scorer Wayne Rooney at Derby County.

Rooney, 34, was at Pride Park Stadium on Saturday and joined manager Phillip Cocu and his staff in the dugout for the 1-1 draw against Queens Park Rangers in their Sky Bet Championship encounter.

As well as penning a playing contract with Derby from January 2020, Rooney is joining the club as a coach and continue to develop his coaching credentials in preparation for a potential managerial career.

Rooney, who agreed to join the Rams from Major League Soccer side DC United back in August, has now begun training with Cocu’s side permanently to prepare being available from the start of January.

Defender Wisdom, who made his first league start of the season at the weekend, believes having a player of the calibre of the five-time Premier League winner will only be beneficial for the Rams.

“It’s a good feeling to have here,” said Wisdom when speaking to RamsTV.

“He’s been training with us for a couple of weeks now and he’s still got it, not that it ever went!

“Hopefully when he is available for selection, he can add to our squad even more but it’s a good feeling to have him around.”

Wisdom believes Rooney has already settled into life in Derby well and added: “He’s a class player, an even better guy and he chips in with the banter so that’s nice.”
