Derby County youngster Jayden Mitchell-Lawson is relishing the prospect of getting first-team football under his belt after joining Sky Bet League 1 side Bristol Rovers on loan for the rest of the campaign.

The 20-year-old wideman made the move to the Memorial Stadium earlier this week and made his debut for the Gas in their Leasing.com Trophy clash against Stevenage in midweek.

Mitchell-Lawson, who has been a regular in Derby’s Under-23s in recent seasons after penning professional terms at the end of his two-year scholarship in the Academy, has made two first-team appearances for the Rams.

He made his professional bow as a substitute in a 0-0 draw at home to Stoke City towards the end of last season and also came off the bench in the Carabao Cup Second Round encounter at Nottingham Forest earlier this term.

Mitchell-Lawson is keen to get game time to continue his football development and he’s already looking forward to the challenge of pushing for promotion at his temporary home.

Rovers sitting eighth in the League 1 table and firmly in the play-off race at the halfway stage of their campaign.

Mitchell-Lawson told Bristol Rovers’ official website: “I’m really happy (with the loan move) and it feels like a new start really; I can’t wait to try this experience.

“I’ve come here to try and help push the team to where they want to be towards the end of the season.

“I spoke to the manager (Ben Garner) before joining and he was very welcoming and gave me the confidence I need to come into the team.

“I saw how well the team was doing from afar and coming in I hope I can help them push on.”

He added: “We have games twice a week a lot of the time in League 1 so it’s a busy period and with something like 20 games to go, I’m looking forward to playing in them.”

Mitchell-Lawson could make his league debut for the Pirates in their home fixture against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday afternoon.
