Goalkeeper Mitchell Joins Northampton Town On Loan

Derby County goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell has today completed a season-long loan move to Sky Bet League 1 newcomers Northampton Town.

Mitchell, 25, was at the Cobblers’ PTS Academy Stadium this afternoon to complete the formalities of the switch for the entirety of the 2020/21 season.

Northampton, managed by former England international defender Keith Curle, were promoted via the League 2 Play-Off Final last month after defeating Exeter City 4-0 at Wembley Stadium.

Mitchell has been with the Rams since 2014, after arriving from Newcastle United, and made five first-team appearances in total.

He has spent time out on loan at Luton Town, Oxford United, Shrewsbury Town and Macclesfield Town in recent years to gain first-team experience.

His most recent loan stint was at Macclesfield in the second half of the 2019/20 season, prior to the curtailment of the season due to the COVID-19 outbreak, where he impressed during 11 appearances with the Silkmen.
