MATCH PREVIEW: West Bromwich Albion (A)

Derby County will head to The Hawthorns for the second time in the space of a month when they head to the Black Country to face West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

The Rams will be in Sky Bet Championship action against the Baggies at The Hawthorns (3pm kick-off), having triumphed in the Carabao Cup Round One via penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw back in August.

Derby head into the fixture following a 2-2 draw away to Ipswich Town two weeks ago, with Carlton Morris and Rhian Brewster on the scoresheet at Portman Road against the recently-relegated Premier League side.

The meeting with the Tractor Boys came prior to the September international break, where four senior players headed out on duty to represent their nations.

Ticket Information

Derby will be backed by a sold-out away end at The Hawthorns on Saturday. The Rams were given an allocation of 2,540 tickets and these sold out quickly.

The Opposition

Head Coach Ryan Mason has had an unbeaten start to life in the Sky Bet Championship with West Bromwich Albion.

Mason built up his coaching pedigree with Tottenham Hotspur, coaching in the Academy and then becoming a first-team coach alongside both Antonio Conte and Ange Postecoglou.

He joined West Brom on a three-year deal as their new Head Coach over the summer.

The Baggies' only defeat of the campaign so far came in the Carabao Cup from the penalty spot against the Rams following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.

In the league, they have won three and drawn one of their opening four matches - coming out on top against Blackburn Rovers, Wrexham and Stoke City and drawing against Portsmouth.

West Brom entered the international break off the back of a 1-0 win at Stoke, where former Rams loanee Nat Phillips scored the only goal of the game at the bet365 Stadium.

125th Anniversary Celebrations

The meeting between the two clubs at The Hawthorns will mark the 125th anniversary of Albion's home stadium.

Derby County was the first-ever opponent to play against the Baggies at The Hawthorns as they played out a 1-1 draw on Monday 3rd September 1900 and the Rams' record goalscorer Steve Bloomer netted the first-ever goal at the ground on that day.

As such, a special request was made to the EFL by the Black Country club to face the Rams around the anniversary date.

Pre-Match Thoughts

Head Coach John Eustace spoke to RamsTV to reflect on the recent transfer window, the international break and look ahead to his side’s meeting with the Baggies.

RamsTV also spoke to striker Carlton Morris ahead of Saturday’s trip to The Hawthorns.

Match Officials

Ruebyn Ricardo will take charge of his fourth game of the 2025/26 campaign on Saturday. Last season, he oversaw five Championship matches and 43 games in total, handing out 198 yellow cards and two red cards.

Ricardo has held the whistle in a Rams game on two previous occasions, officiating draws over Norwich City (1-1 in February 2025) and Portsmouth (2-2 in April 2025).

Emily Carney and Robert Hyde will be the assistant referees, while Garreth Rhodes will take on the fourth official role.
