Derby County’s Will Hughes came off the bench as England’s Under-21s reached the Semi-Final stage of the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship Finals on Thursday evening.

With four points to their name going into their final Group A clash against Poland – following a 0-0 draw with Sweden and a 2-1 victory against Slovakia - Aidy Boothroyd’s side knew that a victory against the host nation would see them secure top spot.

The Young Lions ran out deserved 3-0 winners in Kielce thanks to goals from Leicester City’s Demarai Gray in the first half and then Norwich City’s Jacob Murphy and Chelsea's Lewis Baker in the second period.

Hughes, after being an unused substitute in the first two matches of the tournament, replaced Nathaniel Chalobah just before half-time after the Chelsea midfielder picked up an injury.

Derby goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell was, meanwhile, an unused substitute.

England’s Under-21s will now wait to discover who their opponents will be in the Semi-Finals, with the matches scheduled for Tuesday 28th June.
