Incoming midfielder Graeme Shinnie has been impressed with the progression of Derby County full-back Max Lowe this season.

The pair shared a dressing room at Aberdeen during the 2018/19 campaign after the 22-year-old defender spent the season on loan north of the border.

Lowe earned plenty of plaudits during his spell in Scotland from supporters, pundits and staff, as well as his fellow team-mates.

His performances impressed his peers and he was awarded the Players’ Player of the Season award, helping the Dons to European qualification with a fourth-placed finish.

And Shinnie, who is set to join the Rams when his contract at Aberdeen expires after penning a pre-contract agreement, had high praise for Lowe, who is currently with the England Under-20s side at the Toulon Tournament.

“He had a massive impact on our season,” Shinnie told dcfc.co.uk. “He won the Players’ Player of the Year and I personally voted for him. He came in and thrived on the left and made it his own spot.

“We had a player playing there who prefers playing centre back and does well at left back but we didn’t have that attacking full back which is what Max gave to us.

“His pressing and his driving runs forward were good, and he is still young as well so the maturity to come up and settle so quick and get into the thick of it was brilliant for us.

“He gave a lot to the team and he had a massive impact on our squad this year and hopefully coming back to Derby he can have the same impact."
