Derby County manager Phillip Cocu has made four changes ahead of the Rams’ Carabao Cup Second Round clash with Preston North End at Pride Park Stadium (6:30pm kick-off).

Wayne Rooney returns to the starting line-up for the first time in the new campaign after returning from injury when he came off the bench in Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship defeat against Reading.

He will captain the side, while Max Bird – who has worn the armband in his absence – starts on the bench.

After his three penalty saves in the shoot-out in the First Round against Barrow AFC, Kelle Roos replaces David Marshall between the sticks, while the Scottish goalkeeper has been named as substitute.

Lee Buchanan and George Evans will also start the game in place of Craig Forsyth and Jack Marriott, who are both on the bench.

First-year scholar Ola Ibrahim has also been named on the bench and could make his senior debut against the Lilywhites if he is introduced into the action.
