Derby County Academy graduate Lee Buchanan made his debut for England’s Under-21 side on Friday evening.

The 19-year-old left-back, previously capped at Under-19 and Under-20 level for his country, came off the bench for the final eight minutes of the Three Lions’ 3-1 win over Andorra at Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Molineux Stadium.

Liverpool’s Curtis Jones, Watford’s Ben Wilmot and Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi were England’s goalscorers as they cruised to victory.

Buchanan, who has made ten first-team appearances for Derby in the 2020/21 campaign to date, replaced Burnley’s Dwight McNeil for the latter stages.

The game was the Under-21s’ latest UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier, although Aidy Boothroyd’s side have already qualified for the finals next year with eight wins and a draw from their nine group matches.

Buchanan will be hoping to add to his first Under-21 cap when the Three Lions face Albania at Molineux on Tuesday 17th November in their final qualification match.

Buchanan, who joined the Rams’ Academy at Under-14 level, has made 17 first-team appearances after making his senior bow at the start of the 2019/20 season.
