TEAM NEWS…

Derby boss Phillip Cocu has no fresh injury worries ahead of Wednesday night’s game.

Defender Nathan Byrne picked up a minor knock in last Friday’s 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest but has trained as normal since.

Winger Tom Lawrence and striker Martyn Waghorn are likely to start again after impressing in their comebacks from spells out injured recently.

Waghorn made his first start of the season at Forest after recovering from a calf issue and scored with a superb free-kick, while Lawrence has started the Rams’ last two matches after returning from shoulder surgery.

Skipper Wayne Rooney remains unavailable as he is continuing to self-isolate after encountering an individual which had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month. He will report back for duty on Friday 30th October ahead of Saturday’s trip to AFC Bournemouth.

Midfielder Krystian Bielik and forward Jordon Ibe are building up their match sharpness after lengthy spells out of action.

The duo turned out for Derby’s Under-23s against Southampton last week and are expected to gain more minutes for the Under-23s before returning to the first-team fold.

Bielik played 65 minutes last Friday after recovering from a serious knee injury, while Ibe played 45 minutes and scored in his first minutes in over a year after falling out of favour at his former club AFC Bournemouth.

PRE-MATCH THOUGHTS…

Speaking to RamsTV ahead of Wednesday's game, Derby's Specialist First Team Coach Liam Rosenior said: “I believe in the end that if you are consistent in your performances then you will get consistent and positive results. We need to turn it around ourselves, so that’s the message now going into the next two games.

“It will be a really physical challenge against Cardiff and another really difficult away game against another recently relegated Premier League team in Bournemouth on Saturday, but we have faith and belief in the players that they will prove us right.

“What we have to take confidence in is our performance levels. We are building in the right direction but aware that we need results, because it is a huge football club here at Derby County.”

He added: “For all of these good things to happen, we need to get points on the board. We need to keep believing and fighting for each other. I’m sure that will change.”

More pre-match comments from Rosenior and midfielder Graeme Shinnie can be found across dcfc.co.uk and also on RamsTV.

GOAL LINE TECHNOLOGY…

Goal line technology is, once again, being used at all Sky Bet Championship matches during the 2020/21 season.

The system was introduced for the start of the 2017/18 campaign and is now entering its fourth full season in the division.

WHO’S THE MAN IN THE MIDDLE…

Oliver Langford will take charge of Wednesday night's game at Pride Park Stadium.

Langford has taken charge of six matches in the 2020/21 campaign to date, producing 30 yellow cards and one red card.

His last Derby fixture was the 3-1 home defeat to Leeds United in July 2020, while he also took charge of the 1-1 draw at Leeds United and the 1-0 loss at Blackburn Rovers in the 2019/20 season.

Langford will be assisted by Rob Smith and George Byrne on the lines, whilst Carl Fitch-Jackson has been appointed as the

fourth official.

STAY AT HOME…

Derby County is continuing to urge supporters to stay away from stadiums when matches are played, with the UK Government advice remaining the same relating to playing behind-closed-doors at this time in the 2020/21 season.

Matches are still being played behind-closed-doors with the safety of supporters, club personnel and the frontline services remaining the principle priority at this time.

Consequently, supporters will not be permitted entry to any area of the stadium and extra security measures around the immediate area including car parks will be in place when staging matches.

Supporters are also urged to maintain social distancing guidelines and avoid congregating outside stadiums or gathering to watch matches, as part of a new campaign message: ‘When we play, please stay away’ ahead of all EFL matches.

The club and the Derbyshire Constabulary are united in one message to fans - support the Rams and 'Watch From Home'.
