Lewis Walker has become the fourth Derby County Under-23s player this season to be nominated for Premier League 2’s Player of the Month award.

The 18-year-old attacker, who joined the Rams from Ilkeston Town in January 2016, has been put forward for the February award after scoring three goals in four matches – backing up the four he notched towards the end of January in a 7-2 win over Birmingham City.

Two of the finishes proved crucial as a superb header helped Darren Wassall’s men claim a point from their meeting with Manchester United, before he also struck late on in Derby’s standout win over the reigning Premier League 2 champions Everton at Goodison Park.

Walker is the fourth Rams player to be nominated for the monthly award this campaign alone after Kellan Gordon, Luke Thomas and Alex Babos were also part forward.

The forward is up against: Lewis Hardcastle (Blackburn Rovers), Reece James (Chelsea), Tahith Chong (Manchester United), Tyrese Campbell (Stoke City) & Marcus Browne (West Ham United)

The shortlist is chosen by the Premier League Football Development Panel after PL2 Club coaches nominated the best performance by an opposing player in each of their league fixtures during the month.
